Editor's Piece

Wow - September 24th and Summer has vanished in the blink of an eye - we seem to have skipped autumn and jumped straight into winter ! Temperatures have dipped in the space of, well, overnight. Racing from T-Shirts to thick jumpers, had to rummage through the winter clothes in a quick panic this morning. Unbelievable - it must have something to do with that global warming thing they've been talking about recently.

In Laishan District, So what's happening in Yantai? Yantai's 2nd Wine Exposition and the 10th Fruit and Vegetable Exposition both took place last week and went really well. Each year the events are becoming larger and better. The new shopping-mall, Aeon has opened, and has a fine array of shops, restaurants,  as well as the supermarket Jusco. The 5 Star Ramada Hotel is open and has great restaurants and yes, we think we found the  best  curry in Yantai located here. 5 Star Yantai Crowne Plaza Hotel will open soon.

In Zhifu District, Bei Ma Lu reconstruction is finishing after 6 months of digging and dust, and the 6-lane throughway stretches from the East to the West linking the Changyu Museum (close to Yantai Hill Park) all the way past the new Yantai Train Station (soon to open). New bars - "Druid's Irish Pub", continues to serve the best Guinness and Kilkenny's on tap, and King's Club booms just down the street by the seafront walk near the Changyu Museum. WWW (World-Wine-Walk) has just opened with quality imported wines on display from around the world.

As for the serious business stuff - there is some good information from Yantai Investment development Board about the leading companies and emerging industries in Yantai

Stay warm and enjoy Yantai this Autumn !

Report on the Yantai 2nd International Wine Festival and 10th Food Exposition

Yantai Second Festival International des Vins et Dixieme Exposition Agro-Alimentaire

Translated from French to English: Greetings! The 10th International Wine Festival and the Tenth International Food Exhibition recently held in Yantai in the magnificent new "Yantai Exhibition Centre" was a great success. Numerous delegations from around China, Hong Kong, France, Chile, Italy, Hungary, Scotland, USA, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Japan, Philippines, etc . . . . . . . . , Representatives of the European Union and the President of the Yantai Office of International Viniculture (OIV) has been a unique event in China. With more than 800 brightly decorated stand, the whole spectrum of viniculture and viticulture equipment, barrels, bottles, and corks were on display. The opening ceremony was a sensory overload, with banquets, fireworks, evening performances, seminars, inaugurations, concerts, dining - A true festival of wine and an introduction to novices in wine culture in China and elsewhere. Simultaneously, the ASEM Forum on Trade and Investment in Marine Fishery (Asian-European) was held in Yantai, which is an area with 900 km of coastline, and an aquaculture centre of China.

Yantai Municipality (notably the areas of Penglai, Longkou, Kaifaqu , Wolong , Fushan and Haiyang) is the Wine Capital of China is a rapidly expanding centre for Wine related industries.

All the Foreign Exhibitors whom I met, were extremely pleased with this Festival and with the  business  involved: hence they told me their intention to come to Yantai again next year for  participating in the next Festival ( around September 23 2009 ! )

Aeon Shopping Mall Opens in Laishan

September 30th, 2008.

Aeon Shopping Mall opened last month in Laishan District. This shopping mall is the largest and most impressive in Yantai, and includes a Jusco Supermarket, top global brands, boutique shops, clothing, electronics, a high quality food court and restaurants. There is plenty of parking space including a rooftop car-park. The maps below show the layout of the stores and facilities. (

The variety of restaurants and coffee shops (including SPR Coffee) is great to see in Yantai. The only problem is that it is far out of the City in Laishan District so it is a 20 minute taxi ride from downtown. But it is definitely worthwhile if you are a shop-aholic !

Click on the images below for large expanded maps which you may print for your convenience:

Wishing you Happy Shopping from Yantai-Life Communications !
